Please visit our website (  and go to the Photographs of School Events section to find photographic evidence of the fun we had during Book Day yesterday. Whilst you are doing that you will be able to look at the new whole school photograph on the front page too.

The smiles on faces showed how much everybody enjoyed the day. There must have been a great deal of time and effort put into the costumes that were being worn and the children were all very keen to share these.

We started the day with an assembly so that we could see what everybody was wearing and the variety was vast. As we were focussing on Julia Donaldson we listened to her story of ‘The Highway Rat’ before returning to our classes to start activities.

The Cake Sale organised by the teachers was also a great success and a total of 285€ was raised. This will be used to buy books for the library but just how this will actually happen will be discussed in our Staff Meeting next week. We will keep you informed of the decisions made and let you know when books arrive. Thank you for all the support you gave to make the day such a memorable one for everybody.

I am sure you will also join with me in thanking all of the teachers for making the day a success and particularly to those who were part of the Book Day Committee.

Earlier this week you should have received the appointment time(s) for your Child(ren)’s Student Led Conferences. Although these are not until Tuesday 18th March we wanted to give you plenty of time to prepare for the day. For those of you that have not attended a Student Led Conference before this is an opportunity for you to celebrate your child(ren)’s learning with them. You only need to attend school during the appointment time, when you will be guided through some learning experiences by your child and then meet with the class teacher to enable your child to set some learning goals or wishes. Following this your child will take you to see how they learn during their specialist lessons too. Please return the slip telling us if you will be able to attend or if siblings will need to use the Garderie service as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask your child’s teacher or myself.

The after school Garderie would like to officially thank the PTA for the money that they donated to them last term. This was used to purchase a new storage cabinet and some additional lego for the children to enjoy. They certainly appreciate the lego as I can hear that very recognisable sound of lego being sorted through as I write this. I am sure you know the sound I mean!

You may think that next week will be quieter now that Book Day is over, but there are two class events instead. On Wednesday Cap Science will be coming into school to work with Class 5. This has been organised by the French team and will link with their learning on health and fitness. The following day Class 3 will be visiting The Atomium, and will certainly be in a very unusual structure and learn lots about it for their Unit of Work about buildings. The week will then end with Buddies on Friday and as it will be Valentines Day there are sure to be some hearts involved.

At last the gusty and wet weather from earlier has calmed down now, (the children were blown over to the gym this morning) and the traffic on Franklin Roosevelt is no longer completely stationary (although it’s not moving very fast). Let’s hope that this is the way the weekend will develop.

Please go and take a look at the photographs, you will be able to see more on the screen in the Entrance Hall next week as well.

Enjoy your weekend.

Best Wishes
