The end of our first full week

The first full week has come to an end and plenty of learning has been taking place and the children have been demonstrating their understanding of our new Golden Rules across the school. The sunshine has helped everybody settle in and the new sandpit in the playground is helping them build new friendships alongside their sandcastles.

We are happy to see that the new morning drop off routine is working well, and we are sure that it will become even smoother in the next few weeks. The children are coming into school and settling down very quickly and so it certainly seems to be helping them.

It was lovely to see so many of you on Tuesday for the Meet the Teachers evening. We hope that your questions were answered and that you are now more aware of how your child(ren) will be learning and their class routines. Please remember that you can always arrange to meet your child’s teacher if you have further questions.

This afternoon we had our first Buddy session of the year. The children form Classes 1 – 7 are paired up for this activity and this year the following classes will be getting to know each other:

Class 1 will be buddies with Class 6

Class 2 will be buddies with Class 4

Class 3 will be buddies with Class 5 & 7

We are sure there will be plenty of buddy fun across the year with some learning happening too. Be sure to ask your child about what they did this afternoon.

The new children should also know which house that have been put into by now. For those of you that don’t know, at BEPS we have a House system. There are four houses:

Herge – Yellow

Horta – Red

Sax – Green

Magritte – Blue

House points are not easily earned, but can be awarded for working hard, following the Golden Rules and for anything that is above and beyond general expectations. These points are counted at the end of each term and the House Cup is awarded to the team with the largest number. The House system is also used to encourage a sense of co-operation and community between the children. During some of our special events the children will be grouped across the ages according to their house. You can see the House Cup in the entrance hall; it is currently adorned with green ribbons, as Sax were the winners at the end of the Summer Term.

We are looking forward to our Welcome Picnic tomorrow and hope that the sun will continue to shine for us. Join us in the garden from 11:00 to 14:00 and get to know some other members of the BEPS community.

Classes 4 and 5 will be excited on Monday morning, as they will be going swimming with school for the first time. If your child is in one of these classes please remember that the bus will leave at 09.00, so be sure to be here on time.

Have an enjoyable weekend,

The Leadership Team
