International Mother Tongue Day has been amazing!

This week started with Class 3 having their first swimming lesson. All of the children enjoyed themselves and are looking forward to going again on Monday.

The Class 2 children are getting into the holiday mood with their new Unit of Work about Holidays and went out to visit the local Travel Agents on Tuesday afternoon. We aren’t sure if they actually booked a holiday, but they certainly seem to know how they should go about doing so!

On Wednesday some Student Teachers from the Ecole De Fre came to find out about BEPS and the curriculum we follow. They were very impressed by the children and what they saw and heard.

But, of course the highlight of the week has been today. Everybody enjoyed the celebration of International Mother Tongue Day. We would like to thank all those that were involved in the organisation and planning for the day, and to everybody that contributed to it in some way.

We were amazed to find out that there were 31 different nationalities represented in assembly this morning, and that wasn’t including the early years children.

The children in Classes 2 -7 were having so much fun sharing books, reading and helping their friends learn some words from their language, that break time came before they were really ready for it. After this they were split into groups of children from Class 2 – 7 and took part in two international activities. Meanwhile the Early Years children were having fun in their classrooms too. Many of them had visits from parents and learnt lots about each other’s countries too.

Everybody ate far more than was necessary at lunchtime but there were so many delicious dishes, nobody could resist!

All in all it has been another unforgettable BEPS experience. Thank you for your support, it made the day a very special one.

But now we need to turn our thoughts to next week. On Wednesday we will be having a Fire Drill so that we can practice leaving the school quickly and safely, if we should ever need to. The children will have been warned about this one, but an unannounced one will follow soon afterwards.

On Thursday we will be celebrating again! This time it is for World Book Day. The children will be learning about the Belgian cartoonist Herge and the books he wrote. Therefore we would like the children to come dressed as a character from one of his books, and there are certainly plenty to choose from. The Book Fair will also be in school on that day and so the children may like to bring in some money to spend. You will be receiving more information about this special day from the Book Day team next week.

You should have received the Re-enrolment for the academic year 2015/16 form in your child’s Blue Bag yesterday. If you didn’t please can you request one from Dominique. This form needs to be completed and returned to school by Thursday 19th March. Thank you.

Dates for your diary:

Thursday 5th March – World Book Day

Friday 13th March – No School – Teacher INSET Day

Tuesday 24th March - Parent/Teacher Consultations.

Friday 3rd April - Break up for the Easter holidays. School ends at 12.30.

Enjoy the weekend,

The Leadership Team
