Dear Parents,

The government has decided to re-open the Belgian schools in Brussels tomorrow. Schools have been receiving advice on how to reinforce security in their establishments.

Following this news we have been re-evaluating the situation at BEPS with our police station, and discussing the measures they can take and the advice they can give us.

We are very happy to announce that BEPS will re-open its doors tomorrow and we will be very happy to welcome our children again for a day of good learning. However since the news is  not yet completely reassuring  we have decided to take some additional  temporary security measures. Please read carefully the following information and help us to put them in place:

  • In the morning, access to school will only be possible for children walking into the premises through the front gate Adults are therefore asked to "kiss and go" at the gate. The back gate will remain locked the whole day and drop off there will unfortunately not be possible. The police understand this will create traffic difficulties on Av. F. Roosevelt and advises parents to be patient and safe when they are at the front of the school.

  • Staff members will be at the gate to control who is entering the school and to guide the children into the building.

  • Teachers will also be at the gate to accompany Pre-school children to their building.

  • Morning access will onlbe possible from 8:30 to 9:00 and school will not open any earlier for parents or children. Therefore there will be no Breakfast club in the morning.

  • In the unlikely event that you arrive late you will have to ring the bell, identify yourself and report to Dominique. She will give you a "Late Slip". You should then accompany your child to the classroom and hand the late slip to the class teacher. This is also applicable to pre-school children .

  • Please be advised access to school during school day will be by appointment only.

  • Pick up at the end of the school day will follow the Wet Dismissal procedureadults will have to come in to school and collect their child from their classroomThis is also applicable for Pre-school. Access for pick up will be only be possible through the front gate and parents will only be allowed in the building from 12:30 on Wednesday and 3:30 on other days.

  • By 4:00 all parents and children should have left the school building and school premises.

  • There will be no After School Clubs nor after school Garderie.

  • All trips will be postponed until another date.

  • PE will take place within the BEPS building

You will notice the police will be more visible around the school. This will be both at the start and the end of the day. They will also increase their patrols at the front and the back of the school throughout the day.

Unless new decisions are communicated to us,  these measures will remain in place until the end of the week.

Please can you talk about these new measures with your child before they come to school tomorrow morning.

We do not want to appear unwelcoming or to change the nature of our school as we would like to remain parent friendly.  However, we take the safety of your children extremely seriously. Whilst we understand that these changes may not be popular with everyone, we hope that you will realise that ultimately they are in the best interests of your children.

On behalf of the Management Team and the Leadership Team,

Pascale Hertay
